Buy tickets for Long Island Roller Rebels vs. Hudson Valley Horrors

On Saturday, April 5th, the Long Island Roller rebels hosted their first Women’s Flat Track Derby Association Sanctioned bout at Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage.
The Struggling Roller Rebels who faced even more set backs over the last few months, losing Trixie Timebomb and Roxie Heartless to injuries and Anna Tramps retirement from derby desperately needed a win on this night to get themselves back on track. They took on the rising star of the South, Dominion Derby Girls. This was a bout thirteen months in the making as these two teams were to face off at last years East Coast Extravaganza, but Dominion had to pull out at the last minute due to roster difficulties.
From the First Whistle, which was blown by the Town of Hempstead’s own Kate Murray; it was clear that Long Island was in for a very long night.
Dominion dominated the bout from start to finish, never letting the very inexperienced Roller Rebels to gain Lead Jammer status at all. Long Island was also minus star Jammer C-Roll and had more than half the roster filled with new skaters who had never bouted before. Long Island was clearly out matched and out played by Dominion, who had recently defeated Sin City and Ohio. The Roller Rebels never gave up during the bout and played tough throughout even though it was clear to them, they had no chance of getting back in the game. When the dust settled, Long Island was handed a 307-6 defeat.
Long Island will try to turn this loss into a positive on April 13th, when they head to Lehigh Valley in a non-WFTDA match up with the Lehigh Valley Hissy Fits.

The Long Island Roller Rebels have
proudly been accepted into the Women’s Flat
Track Derby Association (www.WFTDA.com). With
over 35 member leagues the sport of Women’s
flat track roller derby has grown exponentially
in a short period of time. Founded in 2004, the
WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women's
flat track derby by facilitating the development
of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill
among member leagues. The governing philosophy
is "by the skaters, for the skaters."
Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and
operators of each member league and of the association.
With an organized governing body the Roller Rebels
plan on challenging other WFTDA member leagues.
The WFTDA Eastern Division tournament will be
held in Ohio from August 17th-19th, hosted by
the Ohio Rollergirls. The National Tournament
will be held in Austin, TX in September of this
year. The Roller Rebels are Division III members
therefore are unable to compete in the tournaments
at this time. However be sure to look out for
us next year as we compete to become the best
Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby league in
the country.
